who i am
Raised in a conservative religious community in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire, I dropped out of college to be a starving artist and lived in a quarter of the US states before embarking on a two-week volunteer trip to Kenya that lasted eleven years. In Nairobi I stumbled into a job subcontracting for the Economist magazine. (I also worked briefly in South Sudan after independence, where my most notable achievement was falling down the stairs in front of a South Sudanese army regiment.)

Over my years in Africa I drank, adopted a baby, and eventually got sober. I worked as a copywriter with clients on five continents and built a coaching and workshop business, teaching feminine-strength-based entrepreneurial skills to Kenyan women from grassroots to C suite level.
In 2019, I came back to the US with my daughter. Met the man I’d been waiting for, who was a powerhouse recovery advocate, and we built a beautiful life together that ended when he relapsed and died of an overdose. That was my great course-correct—if someone as smart and dedicated as Phil can lose his life to addiction, then I’d better get off the sidelines and get some skin in the game. I’ve been working in the field of addiction and trauma ever since. But there’s more! During covid, my baby brother David Hansen, a top 5% NH real estate agent for a gazillion years, talked me into getting my real estate license. So nowadays I keep myself busy bringing my trauma-informed skills to both passions: delivering supportive service to clients through the stress and excitement of buying or selling a home, and delivering trauma awareness trainings to businesses and organizations who want to foster safety and connection. |
